Intro
Hola! I’m Ana Luisa Zepeda de Alba, originally from the charming city of Querétaro, Mexico. I’m a tech-savvy GIS consultant with a deep passion for animals and data. With a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Ecology from James Cook University in Australia and an Honours degree in Zoology from the University of Tasmania, I’ve developed a strong analytical and spatial mindset.
Currently, I work at the intersection of GIS and data analytics, with a strong focus on spatial analysis, map-driven visualisations, and geospatial applications. I work extensively with ArcGIS, SQL, Python, and R to manage, analyse, and integrate spatial and non-spatial datasets, as well as to develop interactive maps, dashboards, and GIS apps that support real-world use cases. By combining technical GIS workflows with strong analytical skills, I help organisations translate complex data into clear, actionable insights, enabling them to make informed decisions. I’m excited about leveraging my skills to create map-driven solutions that make a meaningful impact in the field!
Work
At GPOne, I work as a GIS Consultant, designing and delivering spatial data solutions that support planning, analysis, and decision-making across diverse projects. My role focuses on developing interactive GIS applications, map-driven visualisations, and dashboards using ArcGIS and VertiGIS, enabling users to explore and interpret complex spatial data in intuitive ways. I collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, translate business needs into GIS solutions, and ensure spatial data is structured, accurate, and fit for purpose.
I work across the full GIS lifecycle, including spatial data management, analysis, and visualisation, integrating spatial and non-spatial datasets to create meaningful insights. To enhance reporting and accessibility, I also develop and connect Power BI dashboards that complement GIS applications, providing clear, actionable views of spatial trends and performance indicators. Through this work, I support organisations in making informed, data-driven decisions using reliable and scalable geospatial solutions.
Alongside my GIS consulting work, I have worked as a Freelance Data Engineer and Data Analyst, where I focused on building scalable and reliable data pipelines to support advanced analytics. I designed and implemented ETL/ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory, orchestrating data ingestion from multiple sources and storing raw data in Azure Blob Storage. I used Databricks for data transformation, cleansing, and optimisation, ensuring datasets were analytics-ready and performant. I also worked extensively with SQL Server, optimising data models and queries to support downstream analysis and reporting. This experience strengthened my ability to design robust data architectures and ensured high-quality, accessible data for analytical and reporting use cases.
In my previous role at Notaria 16, I developed automated workflows using Power Automate and designed layered ETL pipelines that ensured high data quality and consistency for informed decision-making. I also created interactive Power BI dashboards that provided real-time visibility for stakeholders. As a Senior Data Engineer / Data Analyst at Nielsen, I automated workflows through robust data pipelines, optimising data handling using Python and SQL while ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and business requirements.
Complementing my professional experience, I hold an Honours degree in Zoology from the University of Tasmania and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology & Ecology (Advanced) from James Cook University. This academic background provides a strong analytical and systems-thinking foundation that informs my approach to GIS and spatial analysis. I am motivated to leverage GIS, data engineering, and analytics to deliver practical, map-driven solutions that support evidence-based decision-making and create meaningful impact, particularly in environmental and spatially driven projects.

Volunteer Experience
With a proven record of effective leadership and a deep commitment to community engagement, I have had the privilege of serving in various impactful roles. As the General Coordinator of GECEQ Group, I skillfully managed and supervised association members, successfully executing projects and workshops that enriched scientific education and language skills. Additionally, my international volunteer experiences, including turtle surveys and data collation in Australia's "Rivers to Reef to Turtle project," and my role as President of the Latin American Society in Queensland underscore my dedication to fostering cross-cultural connections and driving collaborative initiatives. Furthermore, I actively contribute to wildlife conservation efforts as a volunteer at "North Queensland WildlifeCare, A.C," where I provide care for orphaned flying foxes and participate in donation collection activities.
